Exercises for Pregnancy and Labor

02/02/2020

Hello, birth world! I wanted to share some information that I share with clients. We go over these exercises in our prenatal meetings and practice the moves together. For many, it makes sense when we meet and then they practice them later on their own and say "wait, how long do I hold this for?" or "what was the name of that Spinning Babies® move I liked?" So, I created a document with some more information on the moves and pictures as a visual aid. It's a work in progress, and barely scratches the surface of potential movements you can do. Remember: do what feels right for your body and listen to your body when something doesn't feel right---it's probably trying to tell you something! Don't get too hung up on doing the exercises "right," but rather see what you like and create variations based on your preferences. Spinning Babies® is a great resource to learn about optimal positioning and exercises you can do during pregnancy and labor to encourage your baby to move into the best place for birth! https://spinningbabies.com/ So, here it is, my little cheat guide for exercises to get you moving and grooving with your babe!

Exercises for Pregnancy and Labor: Making Room for Baby

  1. Rebozo Manteada

While standing, rebozo goes around mom's hips and partner holds both ends of rebozo tightly while mom leans back. Partner lightly sifts.

2. Spinning Babies®: Forward Leaning Inversion

3. Spinning Babies®: Side-lying Release (twice a week)

4. Lean over birth ball and partner puts rebozo around your entire belly and pulls up as much as is comfortable for you. Light sifting is okay here too.

5. "Shaking the apples"

With rebozo covering entire bum, partner grips rebozo as close to mom's body as possible and gently moves rebozo back and forth.
